How do you say farewell, goodbye
To a friend of 35 years?
Who you’ve traveled through life with,
Jobs, children, moves, joys and fears.
Holidays celebrated
Stretched out for days in a row
The four of us enjoying life together
20-somethings and later with kids in tow.
You helped us paint our first home
Baked pie with apples just picked.
Without you at our barbecues,
Something will surely feel amiss.
You battled your illness bravely
But if it was your time to go,
I am happy your pain is over and
You left in the comfort of your own home.
Rest in peace, Bill.
So sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. It’s heartbreaking to lose someone who’s become so much a part of our daily life. My thoughts are with you.

Thanks Carrie. He had terminal cancer, but somehow you can never prepare yourself for the inevitable.

Thanks, Ro. Yes, I can’t believe we’ve been friends for 35 years. He was diagnosed with terminal cancer nine months ago. Even with a diagnosis that final, somehow you always feel like there will be more time. It’s still a shock.

This is a really beautiful tribute to your friend, and I’m sorry for your loss. When you go through life with other people and experience its highs and lows alongside them, it helps us remember that we’re not alone on this journey. Our friends and family enrich our existence in so many different ways. We can learn from them and give back to them, and just by being in our lives, they help define who we are.
