I started reading to my granddaughter since she could sit up and it is such a joy. I think it’s important to read to children even before they are verbal. My belief is that this will lead to early verbal skills, and a love of words and stories. I also believe the gift of learning is the greatest gift you can give a child. Aside from that, there’s nothing like cuddling up with a baby on your lap and introducing them to a reading adventure.
Now that she’s teething, everything goes in her mouth, so I wanted to find something soft and safe. It also had to be something she could experience in her own way with colors, sounds and little surprises. I found two charming fabric books on Amazon that I recommend if you are holiday shopping for little ones: Good Night, Teddy, which comes with a little teddy bear attached and pockets to slip the bear into; and Peek-a-Boo Forest that contains flaps with crinkly noises and hidden critters. I have no affiliation with these companies and am not receiving anything for these endorsements; just wanted to share.
I can’t wait until she’s ready for Dr. Seuss and Shel Silverstein!
Nice – lucky you and lucky Adi!

How precious! Instilling a love for reading is one of the most important things you can do. I trust the Shel Silverstein years are going to be a blast. 🙂
