As I do with many purchases, I took a long time to muddle over the decision of whether or not to buy a standing desk. Working on a computer all day, sometimes into the night, I was feeling achy from long periods of sitting. I also heard you burn more calories standing than sitting.
I first heard about standing desks when my office announced they purchased one and made it available to anyone in need of a short break from sitting. I started researching the concept online and discovered this product has been on the market for a while. Where have I been? With varied options and prices, I had a hard time identifying which was the best value. I wasn’t even sure I would like the idea.
So I started with the DIY approach. I collected some big boxes and whenever I felt like standing, I would place the boxes on my desk and set up my monitor, keyboard and mouse. Once I decided I liked standing, at least for short periods, the box approach grew tiresome. Finally, I asked my chiropractor for advice and he was in favor of the idea, suggesting I get one that I can easily raise and lower without removing my equipment.
So I returned to the drawing board, reading reviews, looking at different types until finally I selected the X-Elite Standing Desk through Amazon. It arrived in a huge, heavy box, which I didn’t think I would be able to carry to my office and lift up onto the desk. But once I did, I couldn’t believe how well it worked. Whether I am using a monitor and keyboard or a laptop, it rises and lowers easily. I started using it for a short while each day and worked up to several hours per day.
I just wanted to share this in case you are thinking about it and are on the fence like I was. I highly recommend it. Get an anti-fatigue mat for your feet too. No need to make your feet pay the price.
