Her hand grasps my finger
To cajole me to play.
She raises her arms up
To be lifted and swayed.

The sun can’t compete
With the shine in her eyes.
The warmth of her hugs
And her radiant smiles.

I’ve been here before.
The future is crystal clear.
The day will soon come
When her attention will veer.

Now she only knows love.
Age and cool play no role.
This time is so precious.
Oh how fast it will go.

Parents cannot foresee.
Grandparents remember.
I cherish these days when
Her hand grasps my finger.

Happy Birthday, Addie.
